Five
porcelain enamel murals installed in Grand Central Station, New York City.
Commissioned by the City'sTransit Authority. All the murals shot with Nikon F's on 35mm Kodak B/W T-MAX film. ISO 100
Due to the proportions of the murals only a half frame of the original
35mm negative could be used. This assignment was especially difficult
due to the size and the materials used. Up to that point only line porcelain
enamel screens had been done by the T.A. Halftone 75 DPI screens where
needed for the pictures to be sharp.
Prints from the negatives where made up to quarter size for review, then
the full sized silk screens where used to enamel the 3'x 6' steel panels.
The murals were installed in 1989.
Originally
I was told these murals where installed "forever" or at the
very least 50 years I was naïve :) The Giuliani administration redesigned
the station in 2001... In NYC 10 years is like 50 anywhere else, when
you think about it was a good run...
